Stretch and breathe at these 5 best yoga class studios in Newcastle, UK
We used to associate yoga with peaceful music and effortless poses that somehow looked easy from afar. Stretch a little, breathe a little, and you are done.
But the first attempt quickly humbled us. Balance felt off, flexibility was not there, and it honestly challenged us in ways even personal trainers do not always cover.
Trying a proper yoga class in Newcastle, UK, showed us it goes beyond stretching. It is more about control, awareness, and learning how to slow things down properly.
So for anyone looking to reset both body and mind without the pressure of intense workouts, we rounded up classes worth stepping into.
How much does a yoga class cost in Newcastle, UK?
Yoga classes in Newcastle typically cost between £8 and £18 per session, depending on the class type and instructor experience.

Hotpod Yoga runs inside The Northumberland Club in Jesmond. It opened in 2017 and forms part of a wider European network, so the setup feels standardised.
Sessions take place inside their inflatable pod, blocking outside light and noise almost completely. The enclosed setup, paired with purple lighting and curated soundtracks, creates an immersive environment compared to open studios.
They also layer in aromatherapy using scents like lavender and citrus, which subtly change the mood during the flow. The sequences are pre-designed, moving from warm-up to peak and recovery in a structured way that feels consistent each visit.
There’s a clear class system too, from Hotpod Flow to Dynamic Flow and Rest & Restore, so progression feels straightforward. Mats and parking are provided, removing the usual prep hassle before class.
However, just so you know, their class variety is limited to heated formats only. There are no non-heated or alternative styles available.
Explains things really well
“I started hotpod because I do a lot of intense exercise and have a busy life so wanted an hour of movement for me. Sarah K usually takes the 11:30 Sunday classes and she is excellent in her delivery, she explains things really well, at a pace which allows you to understand the movement coming next and complete the flows. I am able to switch off from the outside world and just enjoy the session. So massive thank you to Sarah K! I am also finding these sessions are improving my recovery which is an added bonus!”

Instructors are super friendly
“I’ve been coming to the pod for a number of years now and I absolutely love it. There are variety of different classes to try and all are achievable. My particular favourite is a Nurturing Flow. No matter which class I attend I always leave the pod feeling exhilarated, there is no better feeling. The instructors are super friendly and are always there to help. It’s been great for my mental and physical health. Would highly recommend!”

They run more than 50 classes weekly, covering Vinyasa Flow and Restorative, as well as prenatal and power sessions. Classes are clearly coded as STN or EVT, making booking and tracking access more straightforward.
Memberships range from about £45 to £94 per month, depending on how many classes and events you want included. But do note that their pay-per-class sits around £15, which adds up quickly without a membership.
Beyond standard classes, higher tiers include aerial yoga, yoga nidra, and sound baths. There’s also a mobile app for booking, plus on-site lockers and showers ready to use.
Their cafe offers food and drinks with a small member discount, so people tend to stay longer before or after class. It feels more like a wellness hub than a quick drop-in, and for us, that setup works well even for busy professionals.

3. Happy Yoga Newcastle

Address: 1st Floor, British India House, 15 Carliol Square, NE1 6UF
Contact Details: +447540077607
Happy Yoga Newcastle was founded by Jo Hutton, a Yoga Alliance Senior Teacher. The studio has been running since 2015 and is based in Carliol Square, which is accessible by bus or on foot.
Classes are priced at around £12 each, with an unlimited monthly option at roughly £55 and a £30 intro for three weeks. Sessions cover beginners and all levels, plus pregnancy and postnatal classes with a specific recovery focus.
Plus, the teaching avoids technical Sanskrit terms and uses simple cues, making instructions easy to follow during class. There is also a hybrid setup with in-person sessions, live online classes, and an on-demand library.
The studio itself is smaller, with heating, fairy lights, and incense used to shape the environment. It’s nice that mats and props are provided, so there’s no need to bring your own equipment.
But one main drawback is that any cancellations made less than seven hours before class are still charged.
Lessons are so gentle
“When I first started showing the signs of osteo-arthritis I was struggling to get down the stairs in the morning, so never thought I’d be able to do yoga at 7:30am. In the early lessons, getting up and down was slow and kneeling or sitting cross-legged an impossibility. Jo’s lessons are so gentle with plenty of options for those less flexible. Before I realised it I was moving from lying to standing with ease and now I can sit cross-legged or rest in child’s pose comfortably. Jo has seen me through bruised ribs and a frozen shoulder, always finding alternatives to suit and 1 year on I am still happy to turn up on my mat at 7:30am.”

Very supportive and helpful
“Jo teaches accessible yoga which doesn’t use fancy terminology or names, but still manages to deliver an excellent yoga experience. Very supportive and helpful and she responds quickly to any queries. Joining up allows access to the extensive video library for specific topics and situations. My feeling is that many sessions would suit beginners or older students. Other sessions are more challenging.. it’s great to have the choice.”

Always feel welcome any time I go
“This is a lovely yoga studio, I can’t always get to classes now I’ve moved away from Gosforth but I always feel welcome any time I go. Rosie’s beginner course is a great introduction to the practice. Hoping to make it to a sound bath soon!”
- Amy Austin, Google Review

5. Yoga Newcastle (David Atkinson Yoga & Thai Massage)

Address: Holy Trinity Church, Churchill Gardens, Jesmond, NE2 1HB
Contact Details: +447747667070
Business Hours:
- Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 9:30 AM – 9 PM
- Wednesday: 9:30 AM – 6 PM
- Saturday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Yoga Newcastle is led by David Atkinson, who has over 27 years of teaching experience and started his practice in 1999. Classes run across Jesmond, North Shields, and online via Zoom, so access is not tied to one fixed studio.
Sessions focus on breath-led sequencing, where movement follows controlled breathing. In fact, pranayama is taught as a core skill here, with dedicated sessions and even a nine-month immersion course available.
Each class combines postures, breathing techniques, and guided relaxation in one session. As you go through the service, there is a clear progression from beginner to intermediate, helping build technique step by step.
Plus, comprehensive private sessions and home visits are offered, so adjustments and corrections feel more direct. Thai yoga massage is also available, using assisted stretches and pressure work alongside regular classes.
One limitation is that class formats stay rooted in traditional yoga, so options like hot yoga or aerial sessions are not included.
Wide range of yoga practice
“My 1st introduction to Yoga was via one of David Atkinson’s classes and straight away he put me at easy among other more experienced class members. David has a very inclusive way of teaching people of all levels and is able to included great breathing and meditation techniques into his classes. Several years later I have continued to attend his classes and also a couple of his Yoga retreats held in Same y Ling monastery in Scotland. I would thoroughly recommend his retreats too as there is more time to experience a wide range of meditation and yoga practice in a beautiful relaxing environment. Overall I find David a wonderful teacher and I am so grateful to how Yoga makes me feel!”
- Catherine Frazer, Google Review
Amazing wealth of knowledge
“I absolutely love David’s classes. He is extremely experienced with an amazing wealth of knowledge of the whole practice of yoga. I love that the class I attend always incorporates pranayama and meditation as well as the physical practice. I’ve really noticed my all aspects of my practice improve. I have been to India a couple of times to study yoga and David’s class is the closest thing I’ve found to that style of yoga. David’s passion for yoga always comes through in the class and there is a always some fun and laughter in every session! I would highly recommend David to anyone looking for a yoga class at any level of experience as David has classes to suit everyone.”
