The 5 best dog boardings in Newcastle, even your vet will approve

Safety and Security Measures:  I looked for facilities with secure premises, robust fencing, and CCTV monitoring to ensure a safe environment and prevent escapes.

Staff Qualifications and Experience: It was essential for me to assess whether staff have formal pet care training or certifications, especially in canine first aid and behaviour management.

Cleanliness and Hygiene: I visited sites to check for regular cleaning schedules, odour control, and proper waste disposal practices.

Accommodation and Enrichment Activities: The quality and size of kennels or suites matter. I prioritised boardings offering stimulating activities, spacious sleeping areas, and outdoor access to help dogs stay happy and healthy during their stay.

Pricing Transparency and Value: I included boarding spots where pricing is clearly shown up-front, usually between £15 and £32 per day in Newcastle.

Leaving your dog in someone else’s care can feel a bit like trusting a stranger with your bank card, isn’t it?

As much as we adore our furry companions, sometimes work trips, holidays, or even a house renovation mean they need their own adventure away from home.

I’ll confess, the first time I dropped my retriever off at a boarding facility, I spent the entire drive home picturing him plotting a rescue mission with the other lodgers.

Thankfully, Newcastle has some absolutely cracking dog boarding options where the staff might just know your pup’s quirks better than you do.

So, before you start practising your goodbye wave, here’s my guide to the best dog boarding spots in Newcastle where tails wag.

How much do dog boarding services cost in Newcastle?

Dog boarding services in Newcastle usually cost from £15 to £32 per night. However, the costs can vary depending on the type of facility, level of care, and whether your dog has special needs.

Home From Home Boarding Kennels is a family-run business set in the scenic Northumberland countryside, offering more than standard boarding with truly personalised care.

With over 30 years of experience, I felt immediately reassured about leaving my dogs in their care.

I also had a lovely chat with one of the owners, who told me about their recent Rural Oscar from the Countryside Alliance—an award that really reflects how much the community trusts and values them.

Dogs, cats, and small animals are all welcome. The “Cats Whiskers and Small Animals” section is devoted to felines and other small furry guests. Each pet is treated as an individual, receiving care and attentiveness just like a family member.

I was especially impressed with their Bark Park. My dog isn’t always the most social, but the setup was ideal for letting him play and burn off some energy.

They also have an on-site grooming parlour, and after a session there, my boy looked and smelled fantastic—like he had a real play day.

Just keep in mind that because they’re a smaller, family-run operation, spaces may fill up quickly. Booking far in advance is usually necessary, especially during holidays and peak vacation seasons.

Pros

  • Personalised animal care
  • Received a Rural Oscar award
  • Scenic countryside setting
  • Has a bark Park play area
  • On-site grooming services

Cons

  • Requires advance booking

Thoughtful dietary attention

“My little Minnie has just arrived home after 16 days. 1st stay with the Home From Home team & she’s came back happy, healthy & full of excitement. I can’t praise the team highly enough for the love & care they have shown her. She’s a fussy eater & they added chicken & cheese so she happily ate her meals. Her kennel was heated too. They posted facebook photos every 3 days where I could see Minnie was living her best life running around the play park & getting lots of attention. They answered any messages I sent but felt I didn’t need to after 1st 2 as could see how happy & looked after she was. Can’t recommend highly enough they’ve done a fantastic job & can clearly see how much they love the animals. Will be booking with them for any future holidays Thank you so much HFH Team ❤️”

Reliable care with regular pup updates

“Wouldn’t take our dogs anywhere else, the service Home From Home provide is excellent. We began boarding our dogs here after a negative experience with another boarding kennels, so were quite dubious of trying out another place in case the same thing happened. However, the staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful, and it’s clear they care about the dogs and cats as if they were their own. If there’s ever been an issue with our dogs they’re always quick to communicate it to us, and we know that our dogs are in safe hands when left here. Especially love the Facebook updates of your pets, so you get to see they’re doing just fine without you.”

At Bark and Breakfast, your dog isn’t put in a kennel—they get to stay in a real family home with the owners and their two friendly Labradors.

Before our first stay, we were invited lovers for a relaxed “Meet & Greet.” It put me at ease to see how my dog interacted with everyone.

I noticed another dog and their owner finishing up their visit, and the owner told me she’d been coming back for years because “it just feels like home for my dog.”

That sealed it for me. Whether your dog is a playful puppy or a senior who likes to take it easy, the owners have experience with them all. They ensure that every dog is looked after according to its age and needs.

It’s also reassuring to know they have a 4-star license from the council and proper insurance. It shows they take things seriously and aren’t just doing this as a side job.

One thing to keep in mind is that they only accept dogs that are up to date with all their vaccinations, including Kennel Cough and that are neutered or spayed. If your dog isn’t up to date, they won’t be able to book you in.

Pros

  • Home-like environment
  • Personalised “Meet & Greet” session
  • Tailored care for each dog
  • 4-star council license
  • Full insurance coverage

Cons

  • Requires up-to-date vaccinations

Welcoming home environment

“We’ve had a great experience with Bark and Breakfast. It’s a lovely, home environment, and they took excellent care of my dog while I was on holiday. The family are friendly, kept me updated with photos, and my dog came back happy and healthy. I’ll definitely be using them again next time I need home boarding…in fact she’s already booked in. Thanks for everything. She was treated as one of their family!”

Personalised attention and daily photo updates

“This was the first time using Bark and Breakfast and it was perfect. Oscar had an initial overnight stay to make sure he was settled then we booked him in for four days.

Katie and Adrian treated Oscar like one of the family. We got daily updates and photos/videos sent to us. Oscar loved all the other dogs to play with and we could see he was content. We thoroughly recommend Bark and Breakfast and Oscar will certainly come to stay again.”

Micky’s Dog House isn’t a kennel—there are zero cages or cold runs. Instead, dogs relax in a cosy, licensed family home, snuggle on the sofa, and enjoy real home comforts as part of the family.

They specialise in small, well-mannered dogs, so your pet isn’t lost in a crowd. My dog was happy and relaxed, surrounded by just a handful of gentle, friendly pups.

I chatted with other owners picking up their dogs, and they all described the place as a “home from home”—and I’d have to agree.

Every day, Micky sent me updates—photos and videos of my dog on walks, playing at the beach, and even cuddling up for a nap.

Those updates truly gave me peace of mind. I loved the gentle walks, play sessions, and safe socialising. My pup came home happy and (honestly) a bit spoiled.

It’s also reassuring to know that the service is fully licensed with North Tyneside Animal Licensing and insured, which gave me added confidence.

However, it’s important to note that larger breeds may not be accepted. This policy can be restrictive if you have a medium or large dog, or one with special behavioural needs.

Pros

  • Cage-free environment
  • Low-stress atmosphere
  • Sends daily photo and video updates
  • Provides gentle walks and play sessions
  • Reputable licensing and insurance

Cons

  • Limited to small breeds

True testimony of comfort

“We left our Eddie for 24 hours at Micky’s dog house to check he’d be ok for a later 4 day stay, he’d never been left with anyone else before, went next day to collect him and he was very reluctant to leave! He made a few new friends with the other dogs, and had plenty of walks,I would definitely recommend Micky’s dog house for a caring place for dogs to stay 👍”

Passionate dog care

“I left it a bit late to organise holiday care for my dog, Teddy, and while searching for a place for him to stay came across Micky’s Dog House completely by chance and I’m so pleased that I did, what a gem. Micky is great and it is obvious that he loves and cares for dogs with a passion. He explained everything and what he provides when your dog stays with him. He has a lovely home which is really dog friendly where dogs have the run of the house and the large enclosed garden, it really is a home from home. Your dog has good long walks in the local area with lots of fun, love and cuddles when in the house. Teddy loved his stay here and is now looking forward to his next holiday in a few weeks time as it’s now his second home. I wholeheartedly recommend Micky’s Dog House, you won’t be disappointed.”

Newcastle K9 Group holds a top 5-star rating from North Tyneside Council, so you can be confident they really care about quality and safety. They offer dogs a chance to play with others, enjoy toys and fun activities, and relax in warm, comfy spots.

One owner told me their energetic Labrador loves the secure outdoor play areas and always comes home happily worn out.

The hydrotherapy service is fantastic. On one visit, I chatted with a couple whose older dog was receiving hydrotherapy after surgery, and they said it’s been a game-changer, helping their dog heal and move more comfortably.

If you have a puppy, they offer special visits just for little ones. Puppies receive numerous potty breaks, naps, gentle training, and opportunities to socialise with other dogs. The team excels at helping new dogs settle in, so it’s more than just basic dog-sitting.

On top of all that, the staff offers advice on dog nutrition, helping you determine the best food choices for your dog, regardless of their breed or age.

The only slight downside is that specialised services and experienced staff mean their prices can be higher than other nearby options.

Pros

  • 5-star council rating
  • Secure outdoor play areas
  • Offers a hydrotherapy service
  • Has specialised puppy visits
  • Provides settling-in support for new dogs
  • Reliable nutritional advice

Cons

  • Higher service prices

Tailored care for unique needs

“Went above and beyond to help us as we wanted to get our dog onto a raw diet.

Really happy to help – she’s loving the food and we will be back soon :)”

– Rebecca Penfold, Google Review

Long-term trust

“Been sending my dog here for 4 years now……he adores it and I feel like he is properly looked after! He always goes in with a happy wagging tail.”

At Rosie’s Place Dog Day Care, there’s plenty of room for dogs to be themselves. With over an acre of land, pups get to enjoy two big indoor spaces and two large outdoor play and agility areas.

They don’t just offer day care, either. They also provide overnight boarding for dogs.

One thing I noticed was how relaxed the dogs looked after their playtime.

The climate-controlled log cabins really stood out—warm, inviting, and ideal for pups who prefer a cosy nap over rough-and-tumble play.

A few owners I met mentioned that their older or more nervous dogs felt comfortable in these quieter spots, which isn’t easy to find at many daycares. Many furparents also mentioned that they really appreciated the one-on-one dog walking option.

I love how the centre understands that every dog has their own personality and needs.

With all the positive word-of-mouth and a convenient location, space may be limited, so slots can fill up quickly, especially during peak times.

Pros

  • Spacious land
  • Multiple indoor areas
  • Offers overnight boarding
  • Climate-controlled log cabins
  • Offers one-on-one dog walking option

Cons

  • High demand during peak times

Excellent and friendly service

“Hutch has been going to Rosie’s since he was around 6 months old. He loves it so much, as soon as we say “you going to Rosie’s” he runs excitedly to the front door and waits wagging his tail. Everyone is super friendly too. Hutch met the Queen herself, Rosie before going to daycare which was lovely. The service is top notch and if you have an energetic little fur baby like mine then you’ll get a peaceful night after a day at Rosie’s 😂”

– Louise Hogg, Google Review

Easy transition, happy walks, and joyful integration

“Luna had the same dog walker since she was a puppy but unfortunately they were unable to continue so we swapped her to Rosie’s. She loves her walks here and she seems to have fitted in with no problems! She always seems to have a lovely time. We were quite worried how she would react going out with someone else but she’s been absolutely fine at Rosie’s. There’s regular photos on their website so it’s great to see them all having fun and enjoying themselves. Would highly recommend!”
