The 5 best dog grooming in Newcastle to keep your pup looking and feeling great

  • Reputation and Reviews: I sifted through online reviews and recommendations and even chatted with a few fur parents at the park to see which places were worth the hype.
  • Service Quality: Whether it’s a teddy bear cut for the Pomeranian or a practical trim for a spaniel, I ensured these groomers have the skills to match the breed and personality of your pup.
  • Pet Comfort: Nobody wants their dogs to come back traumatised. I prioritised salons that create a stress-free experience with enough treats to keep even the most stubborn pups happy. A clean and calm environment is also a must.
  • Pricing and Value: I love a good bargain, but not at the expense of quality. I looked for fair pricing that matched the level of service.

Have you ever tried bathing your dog only to end up drenched or trimming their nails only for one slip to make them act like you’ve betrayed them for life? I have. My DIY grooming attempt left my pup looking like he lost a bet.

That’s when I realised some things are best left to the professionals. Grooming keeps their coat healthy, nails safe, and ears clean. Plus, there’s less mess for you to clean up.

So, if your dog is starting to look like a walking mop or smells like they’ve been up to no good, it’s time to call in the experts. Luckily, Newcastle has some of the best dog groomers who can handle anything from a nervous chihuahua to a full-blown Siberian Husky blowout.

Here are the top spots to get your pup looking fresh and fluffy in no time.

How much do dog grooming services cost in Newcastle?

Dog grooming services in Newcastle typically cost between £30 and £60. However, this is just an estimate. The total cost may depend on your dog’s size, coat type, and the services included.

1. Woof Dog Grooming

Address: Stamfordham Rd, Westerhope

Facebook

Woof Dog Grooming in Westerhope is a go-to if your dog looks scruffy. They specialise in breed-specific cuts, so your cockapoo won’t come out looking like a random fluffball.

I learned about them when my mate raved about her pup, who used to tremble at the sight of scissors—started strutting like he owned the place.

It turns out that the groomers here are patient and actually take the time to build trust. That’s why if you’ve got a young pup, their intro sessions are brilliant. They ease dogs into grooming with quick, stress-free visits—gentle brushing and plenty of treats.

Also, their prices are fair, which is one of the things I like most about them. Their services start around £35 for small breeds and up to £65 for big, hairy troublemakers—to me, that’s not bad.

However, weekend slots book up fast, but regulars say their staff does their best to squeeze you in.

Pros

  • Specialize in breed-specific cuts
  • Great with anxious dogs
  • Fair prices

Cons

  • Limited weekend slots

Very well priced

Absolutely fantastic. We’ve had our shih-tzu to a few groomers in the area and all have been hit and miss every time. From the first visit, they got his hair cut exactly how we wanted and has been perfect ever since. Very well priced too!”

An absolute gem

“Lucy is an absolute gem, and my Yorkshire terrier always comes out looking wonderful. Would never go anywhere else 🙂”

2. Chic Pawtique

Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Saturday: 9:00 – 5:00 PM

If you’re after a groomer who’ll have your dog looking like they just walked off a red carpet, Chic Pawtique in Kenton is the spot.

Trust me, they’re not your average wash-and-trim joint. Instead, they’re a full-on boutique experience with stylish cuts, luxury shampoos, and meticulous grooming. After every session, they even add a bow or bandana for that extra touch.

However, I noticed that Chic Pawtique doesn’t offer mobile grooming or quick in-and-out trims. So, if your dog needs a speedy touch-up, this might not be the best spot.

But this tells me that unlike larger salons, Chic Pawtique only grooms one dog at a time, so there is no stressful crate time or barking in the background. Plus, this setup is a brilliant choice for anxious dogs, which is a major plus for me.

Just remember—they book up fast. But the owner, Lizz, does her best to accommodate dogs with special needs. If you’re in a bind, it’s worth calling—she might be able to squeeze you in.

Pros

  • High-end grooming products
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Grooms one dog at a time

Cons

  • Doesn’t offer quick in-and-out trims
  • Limited bookings

Fantastic service

“I met Lizz yesterday after my previous 4 groomers couldn’t trim my dogs for health reasons. She fitted me in at short notice. She is a lovely, warm woman who obviously LOVES dogs. Her salon was spotless very big and bright. She only does one dog at a time, so no dogs in crates or barking in the background. My dog is very much a “people” dog and is not sure of other dogs. I cannot speak more highly of her. I have already made the next appointment! My dog was very chilled and perfectly happy with someone she had not met before. She came out wagging her tail and obviously not stressed at all. She smelt lovely but not too heavily of a scented shampoo. I was told that it would be about 1.5 hours for her to be groomed. In fact, Lizz texted me an hour later to say my dog was ready! Brilliant! Not too long for the dog or me! See you again soon Lizz. THANK YOU so much for a fantastic service for my dog and me! A VERY HAPPY DOG AND HER OWNER!!! Congratulations on your Business Quality Award 2024!”

An absolute pleasure to deal with

“We gave our boy a new home a few months ago. The last groomer we took him to called me back to get him without his grooming him as he was anxious, being vocal and disturbing the shop. After doing some research and speaking to a few people we found Chic Pawtique. Our boy was finally groomed today by Lizz and looks amazing. Lizz took the time to understand his needs, she made sure she was the only person there to minimise stress. Lizz is an absolute pleasure to deal with. Amazing service and a great cut. I can’t recommend enough.”

3. K9 Beauty Station

Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

K9 Beauty Station could be one of your best options out of this list if you’re looking for a no-fuss, practical groomer who does the job without unnecessary extras.

Unlike high-end salons with spa treatments, this spot focuses on quick, efficient service at a reasonable price. I really like that a standard wash and tidy-up starts at around £30, making it a budget-friendly choice for regular maintenance.

However, that also means you might want to look elsewhere if you’re after intricate breed styling or luxury treatments since they don’t have elaborate cuts or fancy spa extras.

But as one owner said, “They don’t overcomplicate things. My dogs always come back clean, dry, and happy.” You can always trust their bath and brush services to be speedy, ideal for a quick refresh.

And if you’re lucky, Nicola, the owner, might even drop your dog back home for you. That is a great help if you’re juggling a busy schedule, like me.

Pros

  • Affordable pricing
  • Quick appointments
  • No unnecessary add-ons

Cons

  • Doesn’t offer intricate breed styling

Happy dogs and happy owners

Misty has just had another amazing visit to Nicola at K9 beauty station, another fabulous groom and smelling so lush she absolutely loves going. She also has her teeth cleaned thoroughly by Nicola which stops any bad breath or plaque building up. She is always very helpful fitting us in for appointments and even delivered Misty back home for me! Happy dog, happy owners. Thanks Nicola.”

Impressive service

“Really impressed with K9 Beauty Station today after Freddie’s (11 month old Skye Terrier) first ever visit to the groomers. Freddie can be quite nervous around new people and Nicola kept him at ease despite him resisting to go in! She did a fantastic job and he came out looking great and very relaxed. We will definitely be sending him to Nicola again and are glad to have such a good groomer on our doorstep!”

Tyne Dogs Grooming in Backworth is a lifesaver for owners of big dogs. One owner I know won’t take her Great Pyrenees elsewhere—she swears by this place. They don’t rush, and there’s no stress.

Of course, that’s thanks to their professional and knowledgeable staff. They even make the most anxious giants feel at ease. Honestly, I 100% commend them for that because that’s a tough job.

Another thing I love about them is that they have a custom-made walk-in shower that is perfect for larger or older dogs. Their spacious setup and heavy-duty dryers mean Siberian Huskies, Newfoundlands, and German Shepherds get the complete VIP treatment.

However, I don’t entirely recommend them if your pup is more teacup-sized. Their powerful dryer and large tub setup might feel unsafe as if you’ve brought a toy car to a garage built for lorries.

Pros

  • Great for large breeds
  • Spacious grooming area
  • Experienced staff

Cons

  • Equipment is not ideal for tiny dogs

100% recommended

“First time taking my very curly and matted cockerpoo (loves the mud) he looked amazing when I picked him up. Professional and kind staff. 100% recommend.”

Amazing and lovely staff

“Frankie loves visiting Tyne Dogs. The girls are amazing and he has such a lovely time. He comes out looking as smart as a carrot ready to strut his stuff and smelling delicious!”

Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Tanya’s Dog Grooming isn’t your typical salon. It’s a cosy, home-based setup where your dog gets all the attention without the chaos of a busy shop.

Even better is that Tanya, the owner, is an Open College Network (OCN) Level 3 qualified groomer. She’s got pro training in coat care, styling, and dog safety. If you ask me, she’s one of my best bets from this list.

In fact, a friend with a grumpy old dog swore by Tanya, so I gave it a shot for my fidgety dog. The difference was night and day. Tanya took her time, listened, and ensured my dog was comfortable.

Plus, the pricing is reasonable. Your dog can get full grooming at £42. Best of all, smaller dogs can enjoy the service at a much cheaper price, as low as £34.

Now, the only downside? Booking ahead is a must. Since it’s just Tanya doing all the work, she can only take so many appointments, and slots fill up fast—especially on weekends.

Pros

  • One-on-one attention in a quiet salon
  • OCN Level 3 qualified groomer with advanced training
  • Reasonable pricing

Cons

  • Limited slots

Highly recommended service

As an anxious owner the slightest thing can put me off a groomer, but chatting with Tanya via text message (I struggle sometimes talking on the phone) I was put at ease. I was even more reassured when I took lola for her first groom today, my 13 year old shitz is grumpy but she instantly explored Tanya’s groom room with confidence, with Tanya’s excellent people skills I was able to leave my baby without crying and happily contentedly walked to the front street (I don’t drive and didn’t want to be too far away from her). I had a lovely cuppa in the nearby gibside hotel until lolas Spa treatment was done. I received a photo message (see above) to say she was ready. When I got there my little girl was so chilled I wanna book myself in!! Tanya, thank you. See you very soon!!! Would definitely highly recommend, especially if like me you are a total emotional wreck when it comes to leaving your pooches.”

Patient and very accommodating

We were recommended Tanya by a work colleague after struggling to find a patient and understanding dog groomer for our cockapoo back in August 2023. Our dog can be quite a handful at times and he is very energetic but was also quite anxious. Tanya’s patience and perseverance have really shone through. Our boy now gets so excited to go and see Tanya and always comes out like a pristine puppy. Tanya also accommodates our busy schedules knowing that we can only visit on a weekend. We cannot recommend Tanya enough. 10/10 thank you so much Tanya – Clare, Mark and Dougie.”
