Let these 5 best painters in Newcastle give your home a glow-up

  • Expertise: We looked for painters with a proven track record of delivering exceptional results, from residential touch-ups to large-scale commercial projects.
  • Range of Service: We chose painters who offer a wide range of services. This includes interior and exterior painting, custom finishes, colour consultations, and surface preparation.
  • Local Reputation: We considered each painter’s standing in the Newcastle community. We favoured those known for their emphasis on quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Reliability: We chose painters who deliver outstanding results and show up on time, give precise estimates, and keep you informed throughout the job because reliability matters just as much as a flawless finish.
  • Professionalism: We prioritised painters who treat your home or business with respect, from protecting your furniture and floors to thoroughly cleaning up after the job. It’s the little things that show genuine care.

Are you trying a DIY paint job after watching those easy social media tutorials? We gave it a shot and quickly found it’s harder than it looks. We intended our dining room to be a sophisticated shade of grey, but it ended up looking dull instead.

After a few rounds of hoping it would dry better, we finally admitted defeat. It turns out that achieving the perfect shade takes more than good intentions. It requires experience and an eye for detail, which led us to research the top painters in Newcastle.

And if you’re here, chances are you’re looking for one too. So, here’s what our research skills led us to—meet the pros.

How much do painters charge in Newcastle?

Painters in Newcastle typically charge between £150 to £400 per day. However, the total amount depends on various factors, including the job size, complexity, and materials.

We recently had the pleasure of working with KF Decorating and Plastering, and we have to say, they genuinely tick most of the right boxes. They handled everything from interior painting to plastering with a level of care and precision.

Their team was punctual, efficient, and respectful of our space. One standout detail was their use of the Mirka dust extraction system, which meant dust-free walls without the usual post-job mess. We really appreciated not having to deep-clean the house afterwards.

The company also impressed us with their wallpapering skills. They’re adept at working with everything from standard rolls to high-end designer wallpapers, showing great precision and attention to detail.

We also found their full public liability insurance and C.S.C.S. certification valuable. Being Newcastle-based, they clearly understand the importance of having insurance, especially given the city’s unpredictable weather, which can lead to issues like damp and flaky paint.

However, as a smaller operation, note that availability might be limited during peak seasons, like late spring to summer.

Pros

  • Punctual and respectful team
  • Uses the Mirka dust extraction system
  • Adept wallpapering skills
  • Holds full public liability insurance and C.S.C.S certification

Cons

  • Limited availability during peak seasons

Meticulous and reliable

“I’m delighted with Kevin’s work in my house this week. He has painted all my ground floor rooms, including the new skirting boards, plus the stairwell and landing. His work is done to an impeccable standard and he really cares about producing a meticulous finish. He is a really nice tradesman, neat and tidy in his work and very efficient in getting the job done. He will definitely be my first choice of painter/ decorator from now on. A big thank you Kevin from me.”

Professional, reliable, and worth every penny

“Excellent high quality service. Delighted by all aspects of Kevin’s work, attitude and service. So relieved to have a reliable professional that we will definitely be using again. We booked kevin based on these reviews and he was exactly as all of the other reviews said.”

A friend recommended Dinsdale Decorating Services, saying it changed their home’s atmosphere. Backed by over 25 years of experience, the company has built a solid reputation as a reliable choice for local homeowners.

What stood out to us was their focus on customer satisfaction. We were informed how proactive they were during consultations, whether recommending durable products or suggesting affordable alternatives.

Their wide range of services impressed us at every turn. From complete home renovations and precise wallpaper installation to exterior painting and wall repairs, they offer well-rounded solutions for a variety of needs. It’s truly professional.

However, they don’t emphasise eco-friendly practices much. If sustainability is a key priority for you, like using VOC paints and waste-reducing methods, you might have to ask them before booking.

Regardless, we’re happy to know that they’re also fully insured, with public liability coverage up to £1,000,000. And with much of their business coming from word-of-mouth referrals, clients trust them enough to return for future projects.

Pros

  • Top-notch customer satisfaction rate
  • Offers a wide range of services
  • Public liability coverage up to £1,000,000

Cons

  • Limited emphasis on eco-friendly practices

Expert workmanship

Dinsdale Decorating services have just decorated our house from top to bottom and we have been absolutely delighted through the whole process! Jason was so committed to the job, as well as being a meticulous workman. He had great ideas about how to solve some of the problems we had with period features, helping us to retain them and show off how beautiful they are. He was a great source of advice and completely reliable. Dinsdale are also good value for money by comparison with some other decorators. We will definitely go to Dinsdale for decorating the outside of our house too. Thank you for everything, Jason!”

Highly recommended as no mess, just quality

“Jason has completed an excellent job of four rooms. Couldn’t be happier.

Quality workmanship, painting and wallpapering. Very good price. No mess to contend with as he left each room spotless. Recommend him totally. Thank you so much.”

We really like Town & Country Decorators, and so does everyone else in Newcastle who relies on them for high-quality, professional painting and decorating.

With over ten years as a Dulux Select Decorator, they’ve gained recognition as part of a trusted network in Newcastle for craftsmanship and reliability. These aspects truly add assurance to every project.

One standout service we love is their kitchen cabinet transformation. Rather than opting for a full remodel, they expertly revamp cabinets, islands, and even furniture using durable materials. Clients can choose matte and gloss finishes for their cabinets.

We were also impressed with their commercial services, especially their 24-hour decorating option that includes everything from bespoke murals to late-night office painting. Their flexibility allows businesses to stay open without disrupting operations.

However, if you’re looking for ornate plasterwork or luxury finishes, Town & Country Decorators may not be the best fit. Their services are more geared towards functionality and efficiency than high-end decorative detailing.

Pros

  • 10 years of expertise as a Dulux Select Decorator
  • Offers bespoke murals and late-night office painting
  • Uses high-quality materials

Cons

  • Doesn’t offer ornate plasterwork or finishes

Outstanding results

“Chris took his time and put in a lot of prep to our hall and staircase. He turned up every at the same time and is a very quiet, clean and trustworthy tradesman. The finish is outstanding and we’re already planning the next project to bring Town and Country Decorators back!”

Efficient, friendly, and flawless

Chris came out to paint my kitchen today. Take a look at the results in the photos. He did an amazing job and didn’t waste any time. I’m really happy with the end results. He provided an excellent service, efficient, friendly and really well priced. I will definitely be using him again and would highly recommend him to family and friends.”

We recently came across Newcastle Decorators, and what we really like about them is their ability to revive modern spaces while preserving historic charm. Their work on landmarks like Newcastle Cathedral and Castle Keep reflects careful craftsmanship.

Beyond residential projects, they tackle specialist work with impressive skill. As accredited users of Thermoguard, they apply intumescent coatings. These fire-protection layers expand when exposed to heat, making them a smart choice for safety and durability.

We also love their experience using hygienic and antimicrobial coatings in hospitals, kitchens, and food prep areas. These coatings reduce bacterial growth and support strict health regulations, making them perfect for clinical or commercial settings.

It’s also great to see that they’re members of the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA). It’s like a gold star for pros in this field, so it really tells us they meet high professional standards.

However, we have to admit that their premium reputation likely comes at a higher price. Despite the premium quality they offer, the price may be a bit out of reach for those of us on a tighter budget.

Pros

  • Expert in preserving historical buildings
  • Member of the Painting and Decorating Association
  • Accredited user of Thermoguard
  • Experienced in using hygienic and antimicrobial coatings

Cons

  • High pricing

Five-star service every time

Dave has painted five rooms now for my mam she is over the moon with all the work Dave has done. All finished to a very high standard. No mess left behind too. Dave was professional and polite. I will be asking Dave to do more painting for my mam and myself. I would highly recommend Dave. Wouldn’t do anywhere else for a decorator now.”

Excellent exterior work

“Dave recently repainted the exterior of the house and did an excellent job. I unfortunately had to put back the timing of the work at short notice, and Dave was extremely accepting of this. He always responded positively to updates I provided about the delays and quickly rescheduled the job when I was able to give him the go-ahead.”

We once visited Ye Old Elm Tree, a charming historic pub in Durham, and couldn’t help but admire the beautifully painted interior.

While chatting with one of the owners, Julia, she mentioned that the recent revamp was thanks to a local decorating company called Love Colour.

This company has clearly built a reputation for quality. Julia mentioned that the team uses high-end paints like Benjamin Moore and Little Green, and you can tell. The finishes are precise, clean, and definitely made to last.

What really caught our attention is that they don’t just stick to walls; they also spray kitchen cupboards. Honestly, it’s a big deal for anyone wanting to update their kitchen without gutting it. The transformation looks sleek and modern, and it’s surprisingly budget-friendly.

Just a heads-up: despite that affordability, that doesn’t change the fact that their general workmanship comes at a high cost. A couple of past clients have mentioned higher-than-expected quotes or not having full clarity upfront.

Pros

  • Uses Benjamin Moore and Little Green paints
  • Precise and clear finishes
  • Budget-friendly kitchen cupboard spraying

Cons

  • Expensive general workmanship
  • Provides unclear quotes occasionally

Flawless workmanship

We live in an old house that has been well used. The internal walls needed the cracks filling, sanding and painting to make them smooth. Also the paintwork was not the best. The Love Colour team stepped up to the mark and sorted us out. The standard of work was faultless. They tidied up each night and when the job was finished we were left all clean and tidy. Thank you Chris and team for a beautiful job.”

Bespoke finishes done right

“We’ve just had Martin paint our bespoke TV cabinet in the living room, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. The finish is immaculate—precise, clean, and clearly done with care. Martin was easy to work with throughout the whole process, and we really appreciated the professionalism. We’d definitely use Live Colour again in the future. Thank you!”
