Cosy living with the 5 best residential interior designers in Newcastle

  • Extensiveness of Portfolio: I went for residential interior designers who can showcase a portfolio of past work spanning a wide range of styles, such as modern or minimalist.
  • Budget Management: I chose residential interior designers who strictly adhere to a client’s budget and rarely, if ever, go over budget.
  • Duration of Installations: I picked residential interior designers who keep installations to a minimum of two to three weeks for smaller projects and a month or two for larger ones.
  • Reviews and References: I analysed several reviews, both online and word of mouth, to fully gauge each designer's capabilities across jobs from an unbiased perspective.

A home isn’t a home if it’s bare. Furniture adds character, paint adds depth, and lights make the whole thing pop. Every choice, from textures to layout, plays a role in how a space feels and functions day to day.

I don’t particularly trust myself in this, so I rely on residential interior designers in Newcastle. These professionals are perfect at choosing and integrating the right designs into homes. Whether it’s a bedroom or a living room, they know which ones would fit the best in each space.

So, I’ve gathered my favourites and put together a list you should check out. Thanks to their help, any house can feel functional and beautiful.

How much does it cost to hire a residential interior designer in Newcastle?

Hiring a residential interior designer in Newcastle typically costs around £50 to £150 per hour. This price can change easily based on the materials and furniture used, the scope of work, and the overall project size.

While her company was established in 2023, Maja of Maja Flynn Interiors has been in the industry for over 5 years and has gained extensive experience working with large companies.

Now, her own interior design ethic focuses on creating spaces that help clients live well and feel well about their homes. By utilising natural materials, colours, and patterns, she creates vibrant spaces that truly feel personal.

She works with either a single room or several rooms at once and creates sample boards for clients to peruse before anything concrete is made. Additionally, she can work with commercial projects as well, and isn’t entirely limited to Newcastle upon Tyne.

Maja’s portfolio is quite extensive. I personally adore the Stocksfield project for its floral patterns and vibrant colours, which give the house a lively touch quite rare among today’s designers.

Still, for minimalist designs, it might be worth exploring some other designers as well.

Pros

  • Over 5 years of experience
  • Utilises natural materials, colours, and patterns
  • Able to work with several rooms
  • Works outside Newcastle
  • Extensive portfolio

Cons

  • Not focused on minimalist design styles

Pleased with Maja’s design

“Really pleased with Maja’s design for our lounge. The room now looks beautiful, a cozy space to relax in. Maja was excellent at coordinating the work and made the whole process stress free!”

She listened carefully and came up with mood boards

“I am absolutely delighted with the transformation Maja Flynn has made to my home. When we met together she listened carefully and came up with mood boards which she then used as the basis for her designs. Maja clearly enjoys her work and displays real creative energy. She used her contacts to bring in trusted professionals to complete the work. I could not be happier with the results.”

With over 12 years of experience, Sibylle Clerey of Sibylle Clerey Interiors has been providing bespoke designs that balance out beauty with practicality. She focuses on sustainable practices that help clients find creative solutions to design problems.

She draws on diverse cultures and styles to create designs that conform to clients’ wishes. I would describe her personal style as diverse, ranging from minimalist to retro.

She and her team focus on spatial planning and technical design, helping clients understand their space and what would best fit in it. These come with detailed drawings and briefings before anything is finalised.

Designs with her are done room-by-room, and they even provide full-on renovations whenever possible. Additionally, clients enjoy that they handle all the planning and sourcing of materials, which keeps things as smooth as possible.

However, due to the amount of planning, working with Sibylle can take months.

Pros

  • Over 12 years of experience
  • Utilises bespoke designs
  • Works with diverse cultures and styles
  • Focuses on planning
  • Designs are done room-by-room

Cons

  • Designs can take months

We knew she had fantastic ideas and a great eye for detail

“We moved into our home in September 2025 knowing we wanted to transform the interior of our home but with no idea how to approach this project! From the first time we met Sibylle we knew she had fantastic ideas and a great eye to detail with an instinctive knowledge of what we wanted. Sibylle had brilliant communication throughout the whole process and ensured we were happy with every aspect of her concept board. We felt really included throughout and to say Sibylle completely transformed our home is an understatement! As full time working doctors, we were also really grateful to Sibylle for acting as project manager throughout and making it an incredibly smooth process managing lots of different trades people. We would 100% recommend sibylle celery interiors to anyone and have already done so to lots of our friends!”

Absolute Interiors is owned and run by Jason Short, who has over 30 years of experience. Perfect for those who have a variety of tastes, his years in the trade have allowed him to work with contemporary, minimal, and traditional designs.

He won a certificate of excellence from Bark in 2021. His transformations are hands-off, allowing clients to sit back and relax.

He mainly focuses on the kitchen, which is quite rare in interior design spaces. But he doesn’t shy away from working in the living room and the bedroom. I’d describe his work as using flat colours, while still adding depth to certain areas.

Jason is also fond of adding set pieces to his builds. Clients appreciate the addition of an ornate glass centre piece or a chandelier, as it gives a sense of high-class and fashion.

As a result, expect his services to be slightly more expensive than those of competitors.

Pros

  • Works with a variety of different styles
  • Over 30 years of experience
  • 2021 Bark winner
  • Mainly focuses on the kitchen

Cons

  • Expensive services

We absolutely fell in love with the first design Jason presented

“We were struggling to come up with ideas to improve our very dated through living room/lounge. We found Jason through an internet search and are so glad we did! We absolutely fell on love with the first design Jason presented to us and our space has been completely transformed. All of the trades he involved in the project completed the work to a very high standard. Jason was an absolute pleasure to deal with, he gave an excellent service from start to finish and we can’t recommend him highly enough. Thank you so much Jason!!”

– Carol Stringer, Google Review

We were happy with the end result

“Jason simply made it easy throughout the whole process. Initially coming up with some great ideas, then sorting out the order in which the work was to be done, and finally checking we were happy with the end result. If you want a hassle free process and value for your money, then I would recommend Jason, as he has the ability to change various parts of the work being carried out, to meet your own tastes and/or budget.”

At Studio Dean, they think like architects and design like artists. They focus on function-first and utilise their expertise to ensure everything fits snugly. With this, they can create elegant spaces that are also innovative for day-to-day living.

They are led by Cathy, who has been working since 2016. She wants her clients’ homes to be calm and considered, helping change their lives for the better through functionality and style.

Studio Dean’s designs have been featured in several magazines, such as The Observer and Livingetc. Their designs are quite modern, with basic colours and flat surfaces, which I find pleasing.

But for those who want a colourful and vibrant house, this firm might not be for you.

Still, the process is fairly straightforward, with planning and designing taking the helm of the operations. Procurement is done through ordering, and some are even bespoke, manufactured pieces unique to each home, which clients love.

Pros

  • Works like architects
  • Function-first services
  • Over 9 years of service
  • Modernised designs
  • Straightforward process

Cons

  • Unfit for colourful and vibrant designs

I cannot thank Studio Dean enough for the help and support

“I wanted to share this review as I cannot thank Studio Dean enough for the help and support they have given me, to make my house into my beautiful home.

From the initial welcome email to the Spatial Planning meeting, every step was amazing, they are so friendly, helpful and they really take every detail on board and they have made my house function in a way that is right for me and it is starting to feel like a home.

I would highly recommend Studio Dean and I can honestly say they have changed my life and I could not be happier.

Thank you Cathy and the team for everything you have done for me.”

– Lindsey Keeley, Google Review

We’re so grateful we found her before the renovations

“Cathy and her team have completely transformed the plans for our home. We’re so grateful we found her before the renovations started and planning consent was through, as Cathy’s ability to reveal the true potential of a property and come up with solutions that are both beautiful, practical and functional, is incredible. Had we followed the plans drawn up for us by a well known architect in our area, we would have ended up spending our budget on extending our home, unnecessarily. Now we are investing in making the existing space work better for us as a family, maximising the view (which is what we bought the house for) and will have more in the budget to put towards a beautiful internal finish. The whole team are friendly, accommodating and professional. Minor hiccups were resolved quickly and without fuss and the weekly updates were a breath of fresh air as we always knew where we stood, never any need to chase them. If you are thinking of renovating your home, investing in spatial planning with Studio Dean will pay dividends. Do it!”

Serving the counties of Newcastle, Northumberland, and Durham, Willow & Maine is a great resource for those looking for ready-made house pieces. They curate pieces that can easily fit into any home through their in-house store.

I find their projects to be minimalist in nature. They utilise basic shapes and colours to add depth and beauty to homes. Additionally, their strength lies in the living room, but they don’t shy away from bedrooms and even stairwells.

Aside from permanent designs, they can help with styling for special occasions and even create home staging for rental and sale properties.

I love their store the most. It features a well-curated selection of furniture and ornaments that complement any design. Clients can even get a 10% discount by signing up for their newsletter.

Still, their main office is near the outskirts of Newcastle, so it can take them a while to reach you for designs or deliveries.

Pros

  • Sells ready-made pieces
  • Serves several counties
  • Focuses on the living room
  • Styles houses for different occasions
  • Open for home stages
  • Offers discounts for products

Cons

  • Office is located outside of Newcastle

She gave us some great advice and ideas

“We contacted Lorraine as we were in need of some guidance on our home renovation. She gave us some great advice and ideas. Organised a fantastic builder, plumber, electrician, and painters. She guided us through the whole project and even came shopping with us for furniture and furnishings. Lorraine was a fantastic support throughout the upheaval, as we lived in the house during the work. Once everything was completed she arranged a final styling with all the finishing touches to create our beautiful home. We totally love the transformation.”

– Shaun Porter, Google Review

The rooms feel comfortable and stylish

“Working with Lorraine was such a great experience! I had a general idea of what wanted my rooms to feel like, but she brought it to life in a way I never could have done on my own. The rooms feel comfortable and stylish but not too ‘designed’. Lorraine really understood my own personal style.

Super friendly, really listened to what I wanted, and made the whole process stress-free by liaising with all the trades and made everything come together perfectly.

Having done a lot of home renovation myself this was the first time I have used an interior designer and this time the whole experience felt fun instead of overwhelming! I wouldn’t hesitate to contact Willow and Maine again for my next project.”
