5 best solar panel installers in Newcastle to help lower electricity bills

  • Licensing and Certifications: I chose installers accredited under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme that offer incentives under the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).
  • Quality of Products: I selected installers who use high-efficiency solar panels that integrate easily into existing systems.
  • Duration of Installation: I selected installers who can install their panels within 3-6 weeks.
  • After-Sales Support: I went with installers who handle grant processing and integration into the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), while also offering replacements and decent warranties.

Electricity costs have skyrocketed alongside the cost of living in recent months. Given the difficulties we face, it is tempting to find ways to reduce the cost of everyday living. One way I’ve found is through solar energy—but you need a good solar installer.

Solar panel installers are the best at implementing and integrating solar into households. They can source the best panels from suppliers and offer them to clients at a lower price.

With that in mind, I have compiled a list of the best solar panel installers in Newcastle. So don’t fret about that electricity bill any longer and harness the power of the sun.

How much does a solar panel installation cost in Newcastle?

Solar panel installations in Newcastle typically cost between £3,000 and £9,000. The cost will depend entirely on the scale, type, and complexity of the installation.

Minel Energy was founded in 2000 and specialises in installing all types of low-carbon energy systems. These include solar, heat pumps, and wind turbines that can help reduce energy costs.

Their Solar PVs are great for domestic and large commercial installations. These can be directly integrated into your current energy system, or a storage battery can be added to store excess power.

Clients can also opt for an integrated charging point for electric or hybrid vehicles, which has become increasingly popular. Aside from this, they handle feed-in tariffs, so clients can simply enjoy their systems.

As for their wind turbines, these can be integrated into the system. Additionally, they can install heat pumps and wood-burning stoves to easily save on heating costs during the winter months.

However, there have been instances where their after-sales service was difficult to contact.

Pros

  • Over 25 years of service
  • Installs a wide array of low-carbon energy systems
  • Extensive solar panel installation
  • Creates charging points
  • Installs wind turbines

Cons

  • Instances of difficulty in contacting after-sales

The cost was very competitive, and the installation went very smoothly

“I’ve just had solar panels fitted by Minel Energy and have been very pleased throughout the whole process. I dealt with John Wade who was very helpful and not pushy (which was a big plus for me as I hate hard sales). The cost was very competitive and installation went very smoothly. Took about half a day for the panels (10) to be installed on the roof. The electrician fitted an invertor in my loft and whilst he had a tough job getting the cabling routed through to my consumer unit there were no complaints and everything was very tidily done.”

Install completed quickly and professionally

“Minel supplied detailed info when quoting and giving a couple of options at fair price for roof based solar PV system. Install completed quickly and professionally and system generating as predicted. Very happy how was advised and with the completed installation – 4.05kw with 2×5 panels facing east and south.”

North East Solar has installed over 4,246 panels and has generated over 1.4 million kWh through its services. They operate across the entire North East of England, and can install solar systems in Stockton, Sunderland, and Washington.

They focus on long-term savings and are accredited with the HIES consumer code and TrustMark. Many prefer them for their VAT-free solar panels, which can be installed on most roofs. However, I was disappointed that these don’t include slated roofs.

Solar installations with them start at around £3,995, which is fairly cheap. Bonus points for offering a free site survey and quotation. They only require a 10% deposit after the site visit and a 40% deposit during installation, with the rest paid once everything is up to code.

They also integrate systems into the Feed-in-Tariff (FiT) programme and can easily upgrade old systems with their own systems.

  • Accredited installer
  • VAT-free solar panels
  • Easy and cheap installations
  • Clear payment system

Their services are highly trusted, backed by over 20 years of experience. Sustainable Energy Engineering is also a family-run business, which is a plus. I also like that they have case studies for each project, so clients can see whether their services are a better fit.

They use popular solar panel brands, such as FOX ESS and JA Solar. Clients adore that they are connected to Tesla’s Powerwall, a popular battery brand known for its energy retention.

The best part is that they have dedicated plans for schools and community centres. Aside from these, they are part of the Business Energy Saving Team programme that helps small businesses reduce carbon emissions.

However, some clients have noted difficulties with warranty claims.

I have no hesitation in recommending Sustainable Energy Engineering

“I have no hesitation in recommending Sustainable Energy Ltd. From the start and initial enquiry, the team have been very helpful and responsive to our questions. We now have 12 solar panels and all the additional electrics, neatly installed. The job was quite hard, due to the nature of our property and age of the slates on the roof. The weather was also awful for a couple of days of the installation. However, the lads were always polite, cheerful and helpful to have around, despite the circumstances and just cracked on. Their instructions have been clear and they have organised the paperwork required as quickly as possible so we can gain the best from our panels. Excellent job! Thank you!”

– Jenny L, Google Review

Very pleased with the service

“Our solar and battery has been installed for nearly 2 months now. The process with Sustainable Energy Engineering couldn’t have been any smoother, from initial contact with about a quote, to the day of install. We had 10 panels fitted and a Foxx ESS EP11 battery and inverter. The installers on the day worked non stop and you wouldn’t know they had been since everything was cleared up before leaving. All relevant documents sent out quickly after the install to get our SEG tariff set up. The scaffolding was taken down a few days after the work was complete which wasn’t an issue either. Very pleased with the service and from a great local family run company. Another family member had also used Sustainable Energy Engineering also who recommended them to me. Thanks to the whole team.”

For large-scale projects, I would definitely go for SCJ Electrical & Renewables. SCJ has completed over 1,000 projects through its 40 years of experience. There are even free consultations and advice, which clients highly appreciate.

I love that they are accredited with Powerwall and are a SafeContractor-approved business, showcasing their dedication to renewable energy.

The company’s scope is wide, stretching across most of East England, so clients across Tyne and Wear can easily avail themselves of its services.

Their solar PVs and EV charging offer three funding options to help clients switch. The lease-to-own option is the most popular and most efficient. There’s also free solar and a combination of the two, both of which are great options.

Aside from these, I adore that I can easily check my power system through my phone. Still, I wouldn’t recommend them for domestic clients, since they are relatively expensive.

Pros

  • Over 40 years of experience
  • 1,000 projects served
  • Accredited business
  • Offers different types of funding
  • Installs across most of East England
  • Useful app

Cons

  • Not suitable for domestic clients

Very professional service from everyone at SCJ

“From start to finish, a very professional service from everyone at SCJ Electrical and Renewables Ltd. Only took 3 days to install the solar panels, equipment and all the electrical connections. All the employees were friendly and courteous and respectful. We are very pleased with the outcome. We are confident that if we do have any concerns in the future, they will be addressed. Our special thanks to Sean, Chris, Jordan and Lisa for all your efforts on our behalf.”

– Tracey Mears, Google Review

Kept us updated throughout

“Very pleased with our solar panel installation from start to finish. SCJ has an excellent team from Lisa in the office who kept us updated throughout, to the solar panel fitters, to the whole team of electricians who clearly explained the system to us and who worked quickly and tidily with a minimum of fuss. And all liaised with our roofer throughout. We would have no hesitation in recommending SCJ.”

Their solar panels are best suited to large commercial buildings, especially car parks. As for other options, they can be installed on rooftops, and clients can even have ground-mounted ones, which is great for those with unused land.

I like that their battery storage uses Tesla Powerwall 3, one of the most efficient batteries in the industry.

There are also some great funding options available at AR Power. The useful business Solar Panel Grant and the CapEx funding are best for those who want to start saving sooner.

Still, they do face significant order delays due to demand, so please keep that in mind.

A great company to work with

“Added another 5KW of solar to our existing system, along with 2x Tesla Powerwalls.

A great company to work with, that handled everything.

Couldn’t be happier with the system. Combined with Intelligent Octopus Go, and we actually make money overall, despite running two EVs.”
