5 best wills lawyers in Newcastle for fair inheritance claims

  • Licensing and Credentials: I mainly worked with solicitors who are full members of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) or those under the Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE).
  • Local Market Knowledge: I chose lawyers who are knowledgeable about the North East, specifically the properties and locations within and surrounding Newcastle.
  • Fairness in Pricing: I picked lawyers who are upfront about their fees and don’t have hidden charges accompanying their services.
  • Local Reputation: I placed a high value on reviews from locals, as they offered better insight into each solicitor’s capabilities and how they treat their clients.

Wills can be complex, blending legal requirements with an individual’s personal wishes. Without proper guidance, the process can quickly become confusing, and disputes among family members may even lead to court.

Personally, I’d trust a wills lawyer to handle these matters. These specialists are well-versed in managing sensitive family affairs and proactive in preparing future-focused documents such as wills and trusts.

A few of my friends have had great experiences with some of the best wills lawyers in Newcastle, and I’m here to share their recommendations. Consider working with one to ensure everything is clear, secure, and free from conflict after you’re gone.

How much do wills lawyers charge in Newcastle?

Wills lawyers in Newcastle charge between £175 and £360 for a simple will. This price can change easily due to the complexity of the will, the lawyer’s hourly rate, and the potential urgency of its implementation.

Established in 2016, Ann McCabe Solicitors has built a reputation for delivering compassionate, efficient, and cost-effective legal services.

By tailoring their approach to each client’s unique circumstances, they are widely appreciated for their sensitive, highly personalised support.

Each case receives free initial advice over the telephone, which I greatly appreciate. It also helps that they are quite responsive, replying almost immediately to calls, texts, and emails.

Creating wills with them is never demanding, and drafting can be done at any time in your life. Major life events such as divorce often require updates, which can be handled easily by the solicitor assigned to your case in coordination with a divorce lawyer.

Additionally, clients can grant their solicitor a Lasting Power of Attorney to manage their affairs if they become unable to do so. This can also help simplify matters for loved ones later on, potentially reducing the complexities of probate.

However, they only have two solicitors on hand, meaning they can only work on a few cases at a time.

Pros

  • Over 9 years of service
  • Efficient and cost-effective service
  • Free initial advice
  • Easy drafting and editing of wills
  • Lasting Power of Attorney

Cons

  • Limited number of solicitors

The Will Guys specialise in creating clear, straightforward wills. Their documents contain little to no jargon, making them easy to read and ensuring a smooth process between the solicitor and the beneficiaries.

Several clients trust this service, bolstered by its recent accolades, including winning Will Writers of the Year 2020 and securing the top spot for will writing services in the North East.

This firm offers a range of will types. It includes basic wills, surrogacy wills, and military wills, showcasing the breadth of its expertise. In addition, it also provides services in trusts and estate planning.

All of their wills are registered with the National Will Register, which I appreciate as a core part of their service. This ensures executors can easily locate your will and carry out its instructions efficiently, helping to speed up the process.

Still, drafting wills with them takes longer than with other services.

  • Award-winning service
  • Drafts a wide range of wills
  • Works with trusts and estate plans
  • Registers wills to the National Will Register

Cons

  • Longer turnaround time

The process was easy and was completed pretty quickly

“I would 100% recommend The Will Guys, specifically Keith Webber who not only helped us complete our wills but also helped us to review our life insurance policies and pick better ones. Keith was clear in his explanations of all of our options without being at all pushy. The process was easy and was completed pretty quickly. They also offer a deal to teaching staff and their partners.”

Serving the Newcastle community since 1956, Nowell Meller Solicitors has been going the extra mile for each of their clients. Working with them isn’t a one-time occurrence. In fact, I have met several clients who have built partnerships that last through generations.

Wills with them are a lifetime commitment. I like that it doesn’t end with drafting, as updating wills, inheritance tax planning, and handling instances of probate are also part of their package.

Another great aspect is that these services have clear explanations with no jargon, so reading them is easy. Fees, on the other hand, are competitive and reasonable, which I certainly appreciate.

Other services offered are trusts. Clients can even provide their solicitors with lasting powers of attorney, both useful services that I highly value.

But do keep in mind that executing wills with them takes longer compared to other services. However, that’s mainly because they try to follow the deceased’s intent to the letter.

Pros

  • Over 60 years of service
  • Continuously updates wills
  • Wide range of will drafting services
  • Offers estate services

Cons

  • Wills enactment take longer

I truly can’t say enough good things about them

“I recently had the pleasure of working with April, and I truly can’t say enough good things about her. She is an incredible woman who went above and beyond to help me during a very difficult time. Because of her dedication and support, I’m now able to see my daughter — something I will be forever grateful for. There aren’t enough words to fully express my appreciation. I would 100% recommend her to anyone in need of her services”

Most helpful and understanding person I have dealt with

“I have recently sorted out my Will and LPA and I must say that Margaret Caddy was the most helpful and understanding person I have dealt with in an extremely long time. 5 stars are not enough as a way of measuring the kind and considered way in which I have been dealt with.”

David Gray Solicitors has been providing will services for over 45 years. Being highly regarded by Chambers UK and Legal 500, I was impressed by their team of talented professionals who share the same vision of providing exceptional and accessible legal services.

This firm has dedicated solicitors that enact on each part of the will process. Some notable solicitors are Elspeth Thomson and Alexa Wilson, who are both intimately involved with the planning team.

For emergencies, they create urgent wills for clients who are nearing their deathbeds. Simple and complex wills can also be made, and these are reasonably priced at £300 to £850.

Other services include lasting powers of attorney, and they also offer home visits for clients who are unable to travel to their office, which is a valuable convenience. However, these additional services can result in higher overall costs due to extra charges.

Pros

  • Over 45 years of service
  • Accredited service
  • Dedicated will solicitors
  • Wide range of wills offered
  • Provides home visits

Cons

  • Home visits have additional charges

They specialize in every area and provide exceptionally strong representation from start to finish. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and genuinely takes the time to understand your personal circumstances, keeping you updated at every stage.

The outcome I received was far better than I ever anticipated, and I would highly recommend their service as second to none. Amy Lamb, in particular, provided an outstanding service and achieved an excellent result.”

Wills & Estate Planning Legal Services has over 35 years of experience in the financial sector, and works closely with Trust solicitors.

I adore that wills with them are always under full compliance with the laws and regulations, and that they are members of the Society of Will Writers.

Clients work closely with their solicitors to avoid instances of assets ending up with unwanted distant relatives. Lawyers at this firm are also familiar with the Rules of Intestacy, so they are able to draft wills that are clear and without loopholes.

Keeping wills up to date is one of their top priorities. They allow clients to change these during significant life events. In instances where a will cannot be enacted upon, I find their probate services to be quite handy.

However, they are only known to draft simple and complex wills and are unable to create urgent ones, which is a shame.

Pros

  • Over 35 years of experience
  • Members of the Society of Will Writers
  • Familiar with the Rules of Intestacy
  • Allows clients to reevaluate wills
  • Useful probate services

Cons

  • Unable to draft urgent wills

The experience was excellent

“First time using WEP Legal and the experience was excellent. The service provide by Malcolm was quick, efficient, thoroughly explained and professionally carried out. Malcolm is personable and approachable and extremely knowledgeable about the fields in which he operates. Legal support generally is not cheap, but if you look at it from the point of view of value for money and time saved WEP Legal rank amongst the best that I have ever had dealings with. Give them a try, you won’t regret it!”

Excellent advice and service

“Excellent advice and service. Malcolm helped me with the probate process after losing my Dad. I can’t thank him enough. He was so knowledgeable and gave so much advice on other matters for further down the line. I will definitely be contacting him again in the future for other things. Thankyou again.”
