Plus, programmes are properly mapped out. The Junior Academy runs in 10-week blocks for £90; the Ladies Academy includes a six-month winter membership; and the three-month Get into Golf course moves beginners from the range to real play.

George Washington Golf Course sits within the Mercure Newcastle George Washington Hotel Golf & Spa. Coaching is led by resident PGA professional JJ Vallely, who has over 18 years of experience and around 16 years with England Golf.
Lessons are available to both members and visitors, which removes the need for club membership. We love that the coaching formats include one-to-one sessions, themed group clinics in summer, and a growing junior academy.
Additionally, facilities support the programme properly. There’s a 16-bay floodlit Toptracer range, plus short-game and putting areas, all linked to a par-73 course measuring around 6,620 yards.
One thing to consider is that sessions take place on shared practice areas, so you may be coaching alongside other range users.
More than that, from spending time there, the England Golf background stands out immediately. It feels development-driven and credible, especially for juniors or competitive players.

“This is my favourite 18 hole course thats local to Durham. (so far!) I’ve been twice, both on a Sunday and paid £20 and then for some unknown reason £27. The staff are brilliant and the course offers a great golfing experience. You can really let rip with your driver on this course! Loads of parking and excellent facilities with a nice bar area for afterwards. The holes are very well kept which you would expect from a championship course. Something unique is the 10th hole where you are barred from using woods due to local housing. This is monitored by CCTV apparently. I can assure you I could break a window with a putter shot!! Big fan of this course and would recommend a visit.”
