Achieve academic excellence with the 7 best tutoring services in Newcastle
School can be challenging, and let’s face it—some classes can feel a bit dull. While self-study might help you score high grades, it’s rarely the most enjoyable way to learn.
A good tutor can change all that. With the right skills, they make learning easier and more engaging. They show subjects in ways a classroom teacher often can’t.
I’ve personally hand-picked some of the best tutoring services in Newcastle. You can trust them to get you the highest marks in the class.
How much does a tutoring session cost in Newcastle?
A tutoring session in Newcastle typically costs around £15 to £50 per hour. This price can vary due to the tutor’s experience and qualifications, the subject being taught, and the format of the tutoring session.
1. The Learning Doctor

Address: 163 Roseden Wy., Newcastle upon Tyne NE13 9DS, United Kingdom
Contact Details: 07345567346, [email protected]
Operating Hours:
- Monday-Thursday: 9am-9pm
- Saturday: 8am-12pm
The Learning Doctor focuses its tutoring services on online English tuition, with options designed around different learning needs and schedules. Students can choose from one-to-one lessons, small group tuition, pre-recorded lessons, and revision masterclasses.
The one-to-one service provides bespoke weekly lessons tailored exclusively to each child, making it suited to students who need intensive individualised support. Ad hoc sessions are also available subject to availability for learners who need help with a particular topic without committing to regular tuition.
Small group tuition takes place in a virtual classroom with breakout rooms for group work and individualised feedback. Groups are capped at six students, while lesson notes remain available on the platform for students to review later.
For families with less predictable schedules, pre-recorded lessons offer a more flexible alternative to live tuition. Students receive recordings and resources for independent learning, with the choice of subscribing to weekly lessons or purchasing individual lessons for specific topics.
The service is led by Dr Sally McDonald, a Doctor of Education and qualified English teacher with over a decade of teaching experience. Her background includes teaching hundreds of students, including home-educated learners and students with a wide range of additional needs, as well as work as an examiner for multiple exam boards.
A notable feature of the approach is its combination of academic support and attention to student confidence. The Learning Doctor also states that its tutors are fully qualified, highly experienced teachers with enhanced DBS certificates, while the company is a member of The Tutors’ Association and registered with the ICO for GDPR compliance.
The service may suit students who are struggling academically, preparing to resit exams, seeking additional support, or aiming for higher grades, particularly where English tuition is the priority. Families can select between personalised live teaching, small-group learning, or flexible pre-recorded study depending on the student’s needs and schedule.

Kumon has been a valuable tool in my daughter’s education
“Kumon has been a valuable tool in my daughter’s education. Kumon enables children to develop independent learning skills, however, they always have the reassurance of instructors who are more than happy to assist. My daughter has always praised how much Kumon aids her in her schoolwork, especially in her speed and accuracy. This would not have been possible without the constant support of Natalie – her Kumon instructor. Natalie always provides tips and strategies in how to approach questions and how to correct mistakes. Overall, Kumon is a useful format to improving and learning new skills.”
