Solve smarter with these 5 math tutors in Newcastle
Math has a special way of humbling you. You feel confident reading the question, attempt the first step, and then everything dissolves into numbers that no longer make sense.
The good thing is that a math tutor in Newcastle can break complex equations into structured, digestible steps, preventing students from spiralling into frustration. Sometimes it isn’t about being “bad at math”—it’s about missing that one explanation that makes everything click.
Rather than letting confusion chip away at confidence, we gathered options that make problem-solving manageable.
How much do math tutors charge in Newcastle?
Math tutors in Newcastle typically charge between £20 and £50 per hour. Rates vary depending on the tutor’s qualifications, experience, and whether sessions are delivered online or in person.
1. League of Learning

Address: 92 Silver Lonnen, upon Tyne NE5 2HD
Contact Details: +447478355331
Business Hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 8 AM – 10 PM
League of Learning was incorporated in December 2022 and is registered in Newcastle upon Tyne (NE5). They deliver live online tuition aligned with the UK National Curriculum.
For Maths, they cover KS2, 11+, and KS3. They also handle GCSE and A-Level. We like that the range spans from primary to sixth form, so a student can stay with the same provider across key stages.
Before lessons begin, students complete a diagnostic assessment to identify topic gaps and develop a structured plan. This shows lessons are planned around actual weaknesses, not generic topic rotation.
Moreover, all lessons are live and automatically recorded, so students can replay sessions before exams. They also receive weekly progress sheets and unlimited worksheets. It’s so amazing to see recorded access and measurable topic tracking included as standard.
Pricing is subscription-based. One lesson is about £25, and two lessons are around £50. While their A-Level is roughly £35 weekly, group sessions cost around £15 per week. The rates are clear, which we appreciate.
However, the subscription applies whether or not the student attends. So if someone only needs short-term exam support, that setup may feel restrictive.
Confidence grew so much
“I reached out to League of learning as my son was struggling with English literature and was unhappy with his GCSE mock grades. He knew he had to improve to be able to study his chosen A levels so we contacted League of learning. My son is shy and not very confident. Rakin made him feel at ease and comfortable very quickly and within a couple of lessons I could see a huge difference in my son. His confidence grew so much and his whole attitude towards all his exams was so positive. We’ve just received his GCSEs results this week and my son achieved 2 grades higher than he did in his English literature mock exam. He also achieved a grade higher in all his other GCSEs subjects too! Thank you Rakin and League of learning!”

Excellent teaching skills and knowledgeable
“Impeccable tutoring. They are thorough. They made sure that they knew what exam board my son was taking his exam with, so that the classes are set to the exam expectations. They support and encouraged through out the lesson. They even provided support about the next lesson. They provided immediate feedback via watts app to the parent with levels, what was achieved and things to do going forward. Excellent teaching skills, very knowledgeable in their skill set and commendable if you are looking for a tutor.”

2. Kip McGrath Education Centre

Address: 100 High St, Gosforth, upon Tyne NE3 1HB
Contact Details: +441912853816
Business Hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 10 AM – 7:30 PM
- Friday: 10 AM – 6 PM
- Saturday: 9 AM – 3 PM
Kip McGrath Education Centre has been operating in Gosforth since 2012 under Brian Pennock. It is part of the Kip McGrath Education Centres network, founded in 1976 and now running more than 500 centres worldwide.
All maths lessons are delivered by UK-qualified teachers with enhanced DBS checks.
The centre is also Ofsted registered as an after-school club. From our side, these are strong points. Safeguarding and formal registration matter, especially for younger students.
They cover primary maths, KS3, and GCSE, including resits. Plus, lessons are available in-centre and live online so students can go onsite or virtually.
Each student starts with a free diagnostic assessment. After that, they follow a personalised programme instead of a fixed syllabus.
Also, sessions are kept small, with around five students. Honestly, we like this setup because it allows individual tracking without turning into a large class.
One thing to consider here is that this is not the cheapest rate in Newcastle. The fees start at about £29 per hour, depending on the level and format, which might constrain those on a budget.
Support received has been exceptional
“My daughter has been working with the Kip team in Gosforth through her GCSEs and now A Levels ! The support she has received has been exceptional. Currently working on A level Geography the exam papers suddenly make sense and this has impacted on her grades, she moved up a grade in a matter of weeks. Thank you so much for your dedication and care. She really enjoys the sessions and her confidence has really grown!”

Made an enormous positive impact
“The teaching staff at Kip McGrath based on Gosforth High Street near Newcastle upon Tyne have made an enormous positive impact in our child’s education confidence and therefore life. There approach takes into consideration the individuality and learning style of each child unlike the main stream education approach in schools which seem to regard and teach children as being all the same. A big thank you to Brian and all the teaching staff.”

3. Newcastle Tuition Co.

Address: 139 Osborne Rd, Jesmond, upon Tyne NE2 2TB
Contact Details: +447388771529
Business Hours:
- Monday: 7 AM – 9 PM
- Tuesday to Friday, and Sunday: 7:30 AM – 8:30 PM
- Saturday: 7:30 AM – 8:30 PM
Newcastle Tuition Co. is an independent STEM-focused provider based in Jesmond.
They specialise in Maths and Science, including Chemistry and Biology. Support runs from KS2 up to GCSE and A-Level, and lessons align with AQA, Edexcel, and OCR exam boards.
Tuition is primarily one-to-one, with small-group sessions available upon request. Plus, sessions can be held in person or online. A free introductory lesson is also included, which we genuinely like. It lets families test the teaching style before committing to it.
Each 1:1 maths session costs £60 and includes tailored homework and structured study notes. Students also receive exam-style questions targeting weak topics.
Weekly feedback reports outline covered objectives. There is also WhatsApp support between lessons for homework queries, which adds practical value for both the child and parents.
Just so you know, their £60 per hour sits well above the usual £25–£40 range for private maths tutors in Newcastle. So, the pricing itself will limit accessibility for many families.
Polite, professional, and punctual
“Yasamin is a fantastic Maths tutor, it was the best decision we made when selecting her to work with our Daughter. From the first lesson she built a great rapport and made her feel comfortable with a subject that she’s struggled with throughout her GCSEs. We very quickly saw an improvement in her confidence with Maths and this confidence transposed to her final mark. Before working with Yasamin she was predicted a Grade 3 and after working with her for approximately 30 hrs during the Easter half term and revision holidays she got a great pass. Yasamin is very knowledgeable about all the different exam bodies, she was polite, professional and punctual throughout the time she worked with our family. I cannot recommend her highly enough and I hope she continues to support other young people as they complete their education. Thanks for all your hard work Yasamin”

4. Kumon Maths & English

Address: The Beacon, Westgate Rd, upon Tyne NE4 9PQ
Contact Details: +447884008746
Business Hours:
- Friday: 5 PM – 7 PM
- Saturday: 10 AM – 12:30 PM
Kumon runs over 600 study centres across the UK and Ireland, supporting 67,000+ students locally and 3.5 million globally, built on the 1954 self-learning method developed by Toru Kumon.
In Newcastle, enrolment is arranged through local instructors, with lessons delivered in-centre and, in many cases, online or hybrid depending on availability.
Their Maths Programme is level-based, so students progress only after demonstrating consistent accuracy. This structure is helpful, as it allows learners to progress beyond their school year without being held back by age-based expectations.
On the downside, they rely heavily on daily worksheets, which means they can complete work at home and attend weekly or twice-weekly sessions for checking and new material. The repetition builds speed, but for us it can feel monotonous.
Nonetheless, fees usually include a £35–£55 registration fee and around £70–£90 per subject each month. Their monthly model covers materials and ongoing assessment, and it works best for families willing to commit to daily study.
Noticed a massive improvement
“My 9 year old daughter has been attending Rukhsana Kumon classes. Since strarting Kumon, we have noticed a massive improvement and confidence and ability in maths. Her Maths teacher has commented on the change, she went from the shy girl in class avoiding questions to always putting her hands to answer questions! Thank you very much Rukhsana for everything you have done!”

An excellent tool for helping children
“I feel that Kumon at this centre is an excellent tool for helping progress children towards achieving their academic goals. Personally, I think that the Instructor Rukhsana is always willing to help and push your child so that they achieve the best results and potential. One thing that has helped my child after attending Kumon is completing the question under timed conditions, leading to success under exam conditions. Would definitely recommend!”

Contact Details: +441912140333
Business Hours:
- Tuesday and Thursday: 11 AM – 8 PM
- Wednesday: 11 AM – 7 PM
- Friday: 9 AM – 6 PM
- Saturday: 9 AM – 5 PM
Explore Learning has been operating since 2001 and supports over 27,000 students each week across the UK.
The Newcastle centre is located inside Tesco Kingston Park and is fully Ofsted registered. They provide maths and English tuition for ages 4–16, delivered in-centre, online, or through a blended format.
Maths lessons are mapped directly to the UK National Curriculum and cover early numeracy through to GCSE topics, so you can be assured that they are made with expertise.
One standout feature is the Compass adaptive platform. It adjusts question difficulty in real time and allows unlimited practice outside sessions. The Tutors also use the data from this platform to plan their future lessons.
In fact, there is a free trial lesson and no joining fee, which makes it easy to test before committing.
Monthly pricing ranges from around £129 to £184 for group GCSE maths. For 1:1 GCSE maths, it costs between £170 and £270, including materials and online access.
However, for advanced A-Level enrichment, subject-specialist depth may feel limited, which can affect families seeking higher-level maths expertise.
Patient and knowledgeable
“Starting in centre maths and English tuition for my kids recently was the best decision we made. The tutors are patient, knowledgeable, and really know how to keep kids engaged. The lessons are well-structured, and the personalised approach is definitely a plus helping to boost my kids confidence. There is a frequent progress meeting with parents where you can discuss how the kids are doing or ask any questions or concerns you have , they are very friendly and willing to go extra miles. I highly recommend this tutoring service to any parent looking for quality education support.”

Support provided by tutors is outstanding
“The level of support that is provided by tutors is outstanding. They develop a rapport with the children and encourage them to try new and often difficult concepts and support their development. They also encourage them to want to learn. Centrally the support that is provided to you as a parent is excellent, they take the time to get to know you and your family so that they understand any issues and challenges that your children maybe facing at particular times. The best thing we ever did was enrolling our children and it is great to see them grow in both confidence and ability. Thank you!”
