Contact: 0191 622 1296
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–6:00 PM
Life with dogs, cats, and small mammals gets much easier when one clinic treats them all under the trusted Medivet network.
At Medivet Low Fell, that convenience starts with standard 15-minute consultations, giving you time to ask questions about your pet’s diet, discuss a new limp, or raise other concerns without feeling rushed.
Service-wise, they cover everyday needs, from microchipping and vaccinations to flea and tick treatments.
For pets that need more detailed care, their in-house laboratory, ultrasound, X-rays, and laser surgery help provide a wider range of services in one place.

However, they’re closed on Saturdays and Sundays, and weekday hours may vary, so it’s best to check before visiting.

We couldn’t have chosen a better vet for our puppy, Otto!
We couldn’t have chosen a better vet for our puppy, Otto! Our first appointment was for his 12 week boosters but Veronica the vet was absolutely amazing, she took so much time talking to us about Otto and answering all of our questions; she even cleaned his ears to show us the best way to do it!

2. Blythman & Partners – Gosforth Veterinary Hospital

Website: https://www.blythmanandpartners.co.uk/
Address: 16–18 Elsdon Road, Gosforth
Contact: 0191 284 1711
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–11:00 AM and 3:00 PM–6:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM–11:00 AM and 4:00 PM–5:00 PM; Sunday, 10:00 AM–11:00 AM and 4:00 PM–5:00 PM; Emergency care: 24 hours a day, every day
Over a century of local history backs up Blythman & Partners, making their Gosforth hospital one of the most established names across Tyne and Wear.
With eight branches in the region and a dedicated 24-hour emergency hospital right here on Elsdon Road, you’re covered day or night if your pet swallows something toxic. Plus, they offer home visits if you can’t make it to the clinic.
They go way beyond basic cat and dog check-ups, too. Alongside vaccinations, neutering, dental procedures, and weight management, they even handle equine care, livestock, and pre-purchase vettings.
When we spoke to a neighbour who rushed her terrier here on a Sunday night for bladder stones, she couldn’t stop praising how calm and reassuring the night nurses were.
But keep in mind that having three different Newcastle branches can be confusing when booking. Also, Saturday afternoon and Sunday slots are reserved for non-routine cases.

I can’t thank them enough
Today, as always, Blythman and Partners in Gosforth relieved my anxiety over my little Cat. The staff were very supportive with booking appointments (I arranged it 1130 yesterday night) and at the vet they saw me within minutes of my appointment time. The vet checked Tigga thoroughly and gave me all the advice I needed, including prescribing some medication and advising on follow-up appointments.
I left feeling a lot of relief and confidence. They have always been an excellent veterinary service and I can’t thank them enough.

3. Doorstep Vet

Website: https://doorstep.vet/
Address: G1B Stephenson, Prestwick Park
Contact: 0191 543 9632 / WhatsApp & SMS: 07441 361002
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–6:00 PM (Message response: Available 24/7)
A terrified cat can be difficult to get into a carrier, and lifting an arthritic dog into the car is often the worst part of vet day.
Doorstep Vet solves that headache completely as an award-winning independent mobile practice covering Newcastle and the wider North East.
They bring a custom-built clinic van right to your driveway, eliminating noisy waiting rooms for puppies, kittens, and old-aged pets (OAPs).
For service, you’ll get full general practitioner (GP) care, including boosters, sick pet checks, and long-term management for arthritis, thyroid, or kidney issues.
They can even perform heart and abdominal ultrasound scans inside their mobile clinic outside your house!
But because they cover such a wide area, peak traffic hours can sometimes cause scheduling conflicts. Their setup also won’t suit owners who prefer visiting a traditional brick-and-mortar surgery.

I cannot recommend this team enough!
Thank you so much to the team at Doorstep vets! The best vet experience we’ve had to date. Our cat Scout was very distressed and having urinary problems, we couldn’t get her to the vets so the doorstep team came out to the house, got her in a carrier (with ease!) and saw her in the van. The team in the office were very accommodating and got our Scout seen as soon as possible. Alison and Angela were so caring and thorough. I cannot recommend this team enough!

My pets’ needs have come first
Yet again Doorstep Vet has provided an outstanding service and gone above and beyond my expectations.
All members of the team have assisted in ensuring my two cats get the treatment they need in such a caring manner. My pets needs have come first, which cannot be said for experiences I have had elsewhere.
I just can’t recommend you highly enough, thank you so much.

4. Firstvets Veterinary Centre – Forest Hall

Website: https://www.firstvets.co.uk/
Address: 81 Station Road, Forest Hall
Contact: 0191 266 6286
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–6:30 PM
Owners of smaller furry companions like ferrets, gerbils, guinea pigs, and hamsters will find a welcoming local hub at Firstvets Veterinary Centre in Forest Hall. Here, they focus on accessible, everyday preventative care for dogs, cats, rabbits, and pocket pets alike.
If you have a chronically accident-prone dog, their Healthy Pet Club Advanced membership is a massive money-saver because it includes unlimited consultations. They also cover all the essentials like parasite control, microchipping, anal sac expression, and Great Britain (GB) pet travel documentation.
Plus, they actively help owners safely dispose of unused pet medications so old pills don’t sit around the house.
The main catch is that they’re set up for consultations rather than heavy surgery. If your pet needs a complex operation, they’ll transfer your case to their main Heaton branch.
Additionally, out-of-hours emergencies go to Alnorthumbria Veterinary Centre.

Very happy we have registered Bear here; I’d recommend
Beerus had his first Apt. here today – check up, shots and chip. Vet herself was awesome (sorry I didn’t catch her name), working with a very stressed boy, who wouldnt stop meowing the house down from the point we left home until we got back, other than with her.
Bill came in 33% under budget too, which is icing on the cake.
Very happy we have registered Bear here, Id recommend.

The team at Forest Hall were absolutely brilliant
The team at Forest Hall were absolutely brilliant responding on the same day to our concerns about an ongoing skin problem with our golden retriever even though we were 350 miles away from home visiting family in Newcastle. Their response, their care, their advice, their links with our home vet and their treatment all exceptional, subsequently happily confirmed by our vet when we got home. Thank you even for sorting out the PetPlan paperwork. I recommend them as highly as I can – thank you.

5. River Veterinary Care

Website: https://rivervets.co.uk/
Address: 47 Bell Villas, Ponteland
Contact: 01661 679 010
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–6:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM; Sunday, for emergencies only
Nothing beats walking into an independent clinic where the same small team actually knows your dog’s name and medical history by heart.
River Veterinary Care combines that personal neighbourhood feel with 24-hour in-house emergency cover, meaning they never pass your pet off to a stranger at night.
Lead vet Alex holds a GP certificate in small animal surgery and is one of the few clinicians in the North East offering minimally invasive laparoscopic keyhole surgery in-house.
That translates to tiny incisions, less pain, and a much faster recovery for spays or internal procedures.
They also handle complex orthopaedic work like cruciate repairs and fractures right on-site, alongside Animal Health Certificates and rabies vaccinations for taking your pet abroad.
On the downside, their regular Saturday clinic closes at noon, and Sunday hours are reserved for emergencies.
