Start bright learning journeys at these 5 best preschools in Newcastle, UK
We used to think preschool was mostly finger painting and the occasional alphabet song. But once we started paying attention to how early childhood learning actually works, it felt far more intentional than we imagined.
Social skills and even learning how to share toys without negotiating like tiny lawyers. Soon enough, we realised early learning can be just as structured as other childhood activities like swimming pool lessons or after-school tutoring.
Choosing the right preschool in Newcastle suddenly felt like a decision that shapes more than just the daily routine. So, instead of guessing which schools really nurture those early years, we rounded up this list for parents to explore.
How much is the tuition for preschool in Newcastle, UK?
The tuition for preschool in Newcastle, UK, typically costs between £45 and £75 per day. This range depends on factors such as the session length and the nursery’s facilities or learning programmes.
1. The Little Lotus Nursery

Address: Buckingham St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 5QR
Contact Details: +447405742618
Business Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 8 AM – 4 PM
The Little Lotus Nursery opened in 2018 and is accepting children from birth to five, with preschool sessions mainly for 3–5-year-olds preparing for primary school.
A standout feature here is the meditation sessions for young children. These activities focus on concentration and simple mindfulness skills, which aren’t commonly part of traditional nursery programmes.
Outdoor learning is also built into the routine. Children go outside twice each day for nature exploration, movement activities, and sensory play.
Inside the classroom, the nursery uses a nature-inspired setup with natural materials and sensory spaces. It feels calmer than many typical nursery rooms.
The schedule runs Monday to Friday, which closely follows school hours rather than full-day daycare. So, structure works well for families who want a clear preschool routine instead of extended childcare.
Government childcare funding is available, including 15-hour universal funding and 30-hour support for eligible working families. A policy to note here is the vegetarian food environment, so children bring packed lunches that follow this rule.
Incredibly supportive
“We’ve had a wonderful experience at The Little Lotus Nursery. From the start, the atmosphere has been so warm and welcoming — it feels like a home away from home for our son. The staff are not only friendly and nurturing but also incredibly supportive of both the educational and emotional development of the children. Our son has grown so much in confidence, communication, and early learning skills during his time there. We’re so grateful for the care and dedication shown by the whole team. It’s clear they genuinely care about the children, and that makes all the difference.”

- Monday to Friday: 9 AM – 6 PM
Gems Nursery is registered on the Early Years Register and Childcare Registers. They offer childcare for ages 0–5, with the preschool group focused on 3–5-year-olds preparing for reception.
Children move through structured age groups called Ruby (0–2), Emerald (2–3), and Sapphire (3–5). The Sapphire classroom handles preschool preparation through activities such as listening tasks and simple writing exercises.
The learning programme follows the EYFS framework. Activities often include storytelling and music, which help build language and motor skills at the preschool stage.
Plus, families can also use the 15 or 30 hours of government childcare funding here. Just one operational point to note is that consumables like nappies and wipes are not included, so families need to supply these items daily.
Beyond that, outdoor exploration also forms part of the routine, with activities such as nature observation and bug hunting. It’s a practical setup for building curiosity before primary school, and the structure makes the programme feel organised.

“We already had positive experiences from my nephew attending this nursery for a good length of time and since our child joined recently, our already high expectations were met with additional pleasant suprises. This includes the enrollement process, flexibility and caring welcoming nature of staff. We are grateful to the support and evident positive development our child is getting here with a variety of activities offered here. As parents, we feel reassured our child is happy, looks forward to nursery, well cared for in a safe and thriving environment at Gems nursery.”

3. Kids Planet

Address: Chesters Ave, Longbenton, upon Tyne NE12 8QP
Contact Details: +441912599299
Business Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 7:30 AM – 6 PM
Kids Planet operates as part of the Kids Planet Day Nurseries group with more than 170 locations across the UK. The nursery accepts children from 6 weeks to 5 years old, with a dedicated preschool room for ages 3–5, preparing children for reception.
The preschool classroom focuses on school readiness through phonics, early maths, and group learning routines. These activities mirror reception-style classroom behaviour, which makes the transition to primary school feel more familiar.
We value that daily learning follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Sessions often include storytelling and music, mixed with child-led activities and teacher-guided tasks.
Another practical detail is their all-inclusive supply setup. Items such as formula milk, meals, and snacks are provided during the day. This removes the daily bag-packing routine most nurseries require.
On the operational side, families also need to pay a £100 registration fee when securing a place.
Attention to detail is brilliant
“I sent my son to Leigh’s for 18 months before he started school. I was looking for somewhere safe and special where he would feel at home and I really found that at Leigh’s! They went out of their way to accommodate us at short notice and helped him settle in quickly. He now has so many happy memories and lovely friendships from his time there. It was amazing to watch him develop. The environment and attention to detail is brilliant and most of all, the staff are so lovely and took such great care of him. Thanks again for everything. I couldn’t recommend highly enough :-)”

Incredibly well organised
“Leigh’s is everything you could hope for from a nursery, and more. Our two boys started attending Leigh’s a few months ago and it could not have been a more positive experience. The nursery has such a good atmosphere which is apparent every time you visit. The staff are wonderful, kind and attentive. It is so refreshing getting so much feedback; something lacking at other nurseries we have used. Everything is incredibly well organised, and the boys get to experience such a wide range of activities. It is so nice to know that your children are in such good hands. We would highly recommend Leigh’s to all!”

4. Gosforth Nursery

Address: 10 Lansdowne Ter, upon Tyne NE3 1HN
Contact Details: +441917432523
Business Hours:
- Monday: 7:15 AM – 6 PM
- Tuesday to Friday: 7:30 AM – 6 PM
Gosforth Nursery is an independent, family-run daycare. The setting accepts children from 6 weeks to around 4 years old, with preschool learning taking place in the Bluebells Room for ages 3–4.
Children move through age-based rooms, including Daffodils, Buttercups, and Bluebells. We love that the Bluebells classroom focuses on phonics exposure, listening routines, and early number awareness to prepare children for reception.
A detail worth noting is the all-inclusive daily fee of around £66. This covers meals, snacks, and daily activities, which removes the extra supply lists that many nurseries require.
We particularly appreciate that meals are cooked on-site by an in-house cook, and menus follow the “Eat Better, Start Better” nutrition guidance. Parents also receive updates through a secure nursery communication app.
One limitation lies in the age structure. The preschool programme usually ends at around age four, so some children may need to move to another setting before starting reception.
Fulfilling and fun activities
“Our little one started at Gosforth nursery few weeks ago and has settled amazingly well. He goes in with a smile on his face and comes out with one too. This has made working so much easier knowing he’s happy there. The activities he does each day are fulfilling and fun and he loves participating in them. The daily updates and pictures we receive via the app are amazing and puts our mind at rest. The communication and admin side of the nursery is also great. Thanks team.”

The kid is thriving very well
“My son started to go there 6 months ago ago when he was just 14 months old. He is very clingy/attaching child but he settled down and developed a very strong relationship with one of the Key workers. He named her by a name from his own and still talking about her. It was a bit tough transition from daises room toddler room but he got there and now he is calling all the staff by their name and even naming his friends. He is thriving very well and picking up more English words as English isn’t our first language.
I like how this nursery is a small lovely family and I hope it won’t change forever.”

Another highlight is the outdoor learning area, which can be used for physical play and nature activities. The nursery also sits inside a children’s centre, so families can access services such as health visitors and speech specialists.
However, there are no school pickup services for older children. Families with siblings in nearby schools may need to organise separate after-school care.
Reassuring safety measures
“My little boy has attended the nursery since he was 11 months old. The staff supported me during COVID and reassured me of their safety measures and I have no doubt my son is in safe hands. I can go to work confidently knowing he will be perfectly fine. He clearly loves the nursery and staff and goes straight in which is a fab sign. I love getting sent pictures through the app of what a fab day he is having! Especially the messy activities which I don’t get around to doing at home as much! I would definitely recommend!! :D”

Kind, friendly, and professional
“We’re very happy that we chose Little Pioneers Newbiggin Hall for our son. The staff are kind, friendly and professional. The rooms are well-equipped and the food is healthy and delicious. Our eldest son started in the baby room aged 13 months. Although it was really hard to leave him, the staff were reassuring and he has always settled quickly. Two years on and he still loves nursery and will soon be joined by his little brother. Thank you to all the staff at Little Pioneers for taking such good care of our baby!”
